Oliver's Tech Tips: Efficiency Tips Volume II
Oliver's Efficiency Tips Volume II
As Dataccount continues to explore the hidden functionality behind base efficiency for Microsoft programs and operating systems we are now divulging the secrets of the Shift Key for uses other than capitalization.
The Shift Key:
The primary Shift key function is known by most everybody, capitalization. However, there are quite a few other shift key combinations that can prove very useful when working in windows. The following key commands bellow are usable in almost every single windows program you use. These are the ones that I use the most:
Shift-Home: Select everything between the cursor and the beginning of the line
Shift-End: Select everything between the cursor and the end of the line
Shift-UpArrow :Select everything between the cursor and one line up
Shift-DownArrow: Select everything between the cursor and one line down
Shift -PageUp: Select everything between the cursor, and one page up from the cursor
Shift -PageUp: Select everything between the cursor, and one page down from the cursor
Shift -Insert: This can be used as an alternative to ctrl+v as a "Paste" function this is especially useful in situations where ctrl+v is not recognized by the program.
Shift - Delete: Alternative to ctrl +x as "Cut" function. Again this can be useful for situations where ctrl+x is not recognized. But use care with this key combination as incorrectly entering it may end with just Delete.
Shift -Ctrl +: this interesting key combination will provide you with the ability to add superscript to the document you are working on.
We welcome any additional hints or uses for these keys that our readers may have. We will gladly publish them to our blog and give credit to the person for the up date. We hope that the tips will save some time in your day. And don't worry we will continue this series into the new year.

Kryptiva's Teambox
A few days ago, we needed to do some major editing to a very large document. The problem we faced was that while we had all the information in one place, each person was responsible for different pieces. This could have been the usual ungainly and drawn out project where each individual takes time to work on the document, save and wait for the next person to add their input before seeing it again. Or even worse, we could have all sat around one computer providing input. Thankfully this style of work has gone the way of the Dodo.
We leveraged Kryptiva's Teambox to cut the project time by more than 50%. Teambox is intuitive and is very end-user friendly. After a few clicks, we had the document up for everyone to view. Two more clicks and the team was in with the screen control mode on. We were all able to edit the document togther in real time from each of our computers. Even better, not all of us needed Teambox installed to participate.
Teambox works with out the need for administration or an IT department. Installing and using Teambox did not disrupt any organization functions. It will work with any e-mail client whether it is Outlook or a web based service such as Hotmail, Gmail, or Yahoo. Also, the program features Online banking grade SSL security.
The features of this program:
Attachment Management- Users can transparently attach files of any size to e-mails which expedites the sharing and editing of large documents.
File Sharing- Documents can be shared in an easy and secure manner providing instant collaboration. Also, this eliminates re-sending files to the original sender.
Screen Sharing- Users can invite others to view individual applications or their entire desktop. This solution entirely eliminates the setup procedure and costs associated with similar services. Also, collaborative work can be done on any document simultaneously
Contextualized Instant Messaging- Users can initiate secure and auditable IM sessions directly from a Teambox. There is no requirement for the other parties to have Teambox installed to use this feature. This greatly reduces off-topic discussions as well as increases productivity by eliminating the need to send e-mail for quick questions and comments. At the end of a discussion a full report of the conversation is generated for your records.
Teambox centralizes efforts on a given task placing the people, documents, and relevant information all in once place.
You can find additional information from the developers of this unique program at http://www.kryptiva.com/
If you are interested in learning more, we are hosting a short webinar featuring this software on Thursday December 17th at 11AM, and again on January 6th at 2:30PM

Cyber Monday extends to B2B 3 for the price of 1
We hope everyone had an excellent Thanksgiving and enjoyed Black Friday to kick off the holiday savings. Dataccount has now joined the cyber Holiday rush -- we have partnered with Microsoft to create a special offer for our nonprofit constituents, effective now till December 23rd
For new Dynamics GP users we are offering 2 free business ready licenses with the purchase of the first. This is a great chance for your organization to save money before the end of the year. The savings for upgrading by December 23rd are enormous: $4,500 for a Business Essentials pack, and $7960 savings for an Advanced Management pack. The savings -- The real return comes from what Dynamics GP can do for your organization. These savings come from reducing the work load and redundancy in not only Accounting but in every other department as well, and this is only the beginning.
With the year-end approaching, it is again time to review the performance of your current financial software and determine if it still meets the needs of your business. For those of you who have manged to keep growing in these hard economic times you may have out grown your current systems and be ready for Dynamics GP. If you are still feeling pressure from the economy it might be time to see how efficiency can be improved and ROI increased.
If you don't know how well your financial software is performing, as an added bonus Dataccount can come on-site to perform a free evaluation and consultation of your financial software. This will result in a summary document outlining our recommendations based on industry best practices and our experience and training. That's a free consultation, no strings attached.
Happy Holidays From the Staff at Dataccount
